How to restart your 4G ZTE MF296R router

This article explains how to restart your 4G ZTE MF296R router. Restarting your router can resolve common issues such as slow speeds, intermittent connectivity, or devices being unable to connect.

Option 1: Restart using the reset button

  1. Locate the Reset button on the back of the router.
  2. Insert a pin or paperclip into the reset hole.
  3. Press and hold the Reset button for approximately 10 seconds until the LED lights turn off and back on again.
  4. Release the button and wait for the router to restart.

Option 2: Restart using a power cycle

  1. Unplug the power cable from the back of the router.
  2. Unplug the power adapter from the wall socket.
  3. Wait 3 to 5 minutes with both unplugged.
  4. Plug the power adapter back into the wall socket.
  5. Plug the power cable back into the router.
  6. Wait 3 to 5 minutes for the router to reboot and re-establish your internet connection.

Option 3: Restart using the software interface

  1. Open your browser and enter http://192.168.8.1 in the address bar, then press Enter.
  2. Enter your login details and select Log In. The default password is printed on the sticker at the bottom of the router.
  3. Select Advanced.
  4. Select System.
  5. Select Restart.
  6. A confirmation prompt will appear. Select Restart to proceed.
  7. Select Continue.

The router will restart automatically. Allow 3 to 5 minutes for it to reboot and re-establish your internet connection.
