How to do a factory reset on your 5G ZTE MC888 router

Modified on Sat, 28 Mar at 7:51 AM

This article explains how to perform a factory reset on your 5G ZTE MC888 router. A factory reset restores the router to its original default settings and can resolve persistent connection issues that a standard restart has not fixed.

Please note: A factory reset will erase all custom settings, including your Wi-Fi network name, password, and any configuration changes you have made. After the reset, you will need to log in using the default credentials printed on the sticker at the bottom of the router.

Before you start

Option 1: Reset using the reset button

  1. Locate the Reset button on the back of the router. It is a small recessed button.
  2. Insert a pin or paperclip into the reset hole.
  3. Press and hold the Reset button for approximately 3 seconds until the LED lights turn off and back on again.
  4. Release the button and wait for the router to restart. This may take a few minutes.

Option 2: Reset using the software interface

  1. Open your browser and enter http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar, then press Enter.
  2. Enter your login details and select Log In. The default password is printed on the sticker at the bottom of the router.
  3. Select Advanced Settings.
  4. Select Others.
  5. Select Reset.
  6. A confirmation prompt will appear. Select Reset to proceed.
  7. A second confirmation prompt will appear. Select Yes to confirm the factory reset.

The router will reset to factory defaults and restart automatically. This may take a few minutes.

After the factory reset

Once the router has restarted:

  1. Reconnect your device to the Wi-Fi network using the default network name and password printed on the sticker at the bottom of the router.
  2. Open your browser and go to http://192.168.0.1 to access the router software interface if you need to reconfigure any settings.
  3. Check that the LED lights on the front of the router return to their normal state. See 5G ZTE MC888 router lights and interface for guidance on what each light means.
