How to set up WhatsApp Business with your bOnline VoIP number

Setting up WhatsApp Business with your bOnline VoIP number is quick and simple. Follow the steps below to get started.


Step 1: Download WhatsApp Business

  1. Open the Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iPhone).

  2. Search for WhatsApp Business and download the app.

  3. Once installed, open the app to begin setup.



Step 2: Register Your bOnline VoIP Number

  1. Tap Agree and Continue to accept WhatsApp’s terms of service.

  2. When prompted to enter your phone number, enter your bOnline VoIP number in the correct format:

    • UK: +44, followed by your number (e.g. +441234567890).

  3. Tap Yes to confirm your number.



Step 3: Verify Your VoIP Number

Since VoIP numbers cannot receive SMS, you’ll need to verify your number via a phone call.

Important: Before Verification

  • Your bOnline VoIP number must ring directly to you (without a greeting message or call menu) so you can answer the call and hear the verification code.

Verification Steps

  1. WhatsApp will attempt to send an SMS verification code, but this will not be delivered to VoIP numbers.

  2. Wait for the "Call me" option to appear, then tap it.

  3. Answer the automated call immediately.

  4. Listen carefully as the system reads out a 6-digit verification code.

  5. Enter the code into the WhatsApp Business app to complete verification.



Troubleshooting Verification Issues

  • Didn’t receive the call? Wait for the countdown timer to finish, then tap "Call me" again.

  • Did you miss the call or enter the wrong code? Avoid multiple failed attempts, as this may lock your account temporarily.

Step 4: Set Up Your Business Profile

Once your number is verified, you’ll be prompted to create a business profile. Enter the following details:

  • Business Name (cannot be changed later).

  • Business Category (e.g. retail, consulting, hospitality).

  • Profile Picture (add a logo or professional image for a polished look).


Step 5: Customise Your Business Settings

Make the most of WhatsApp Business by setting up key features:

  • Automated Messages – Send welcome messages to new customers or set up away messages when you’re unavailable.

  • Quick Replies – Save responses to common questions for faster messaging.

  • Business Hours – Let customers know when you’re open for communication.

To access these features, go to Settings > Business Tools in the WhatsApp Business app.
