Wi-Fi Explained
Wi-Fi and the internet are often confused, but they are most definitely not the same thing. Here's the key difference between them: the Internet is the digital network that allows communication between all users, while Wi-Fi connects your devices to the Internet using radio waves.
Why Wi-Fi?
- Wireless convenience with no cables required.
- Connect multiple devices at the same time.
- Mobility within your coverage area.
- Supports a wide range of uses including work, VoIP, CCTV, cloud services, and streaming.
Wi-Fi Frequency Bands
- 2.4 GHz — longer range, slower speed. Best for devices further from the router.
- 5 GHz — faster speed, shorter range. Best for devices closer to the router.
- 6 GHz (Wi-Fi 6E) — very high speed and low latency. Best for demanding applications in close range.
Wi-Fi Generations and Speeds
- Wi-Fi 4 — up to 600 Mbps.
- Wi-Fi 5 — up to 3.5 Gbps.
- Wi-Fi 6 — up to 9.6 Gbps.
- Wi-Fi 7 — up to 40+ Gbps.
